Spit Syndicate to tour

Spit Syndicate to tour

Amazing things come to those who work their arses off. When Spit Syndicate’s debut record clocked an ARIA nomination in 2009 the cheeky, charming, occasionally foul-mouthed, duo were in the spotlight in a big way. Follow up LP Exile promised a world away from the mundane, whilst 2013’s album Sunday Gentlemen owned up to the reality of being a working artist: funneling creativity into the cracks of time left over from a working week. Widely touted as Spit Syndicate’s most honest and open storytelling to date, the Sunday Gentlemen message was to make time to do what you love. It was about “creating music for ourselves and our fans, on our terms, in between the time we spend working for other people.”

It was a delivery received loud and clear by SS fans across Australia, who snapped up every last damn ticket for the Sunday Gentlemen tour in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Newcastle, and incited all kinds of madness right across Australia at every other date besides.

As with the first two singles [‘Beauty In The Bricks’ and ‘Folly’] from Sunday Gentlemen, 'Amazing', the third track to be lifted from the album jumped straight onto the full rotation carousel at triple j. It also signaled an invitation to appear on one of the station’s most loved segments, Like A Version, and will steer the Money Over Bullshit tour toward a debut at one of Australia’s preeminent music conferences, Brisbane’s BigSound.

While Sunday Gentlemen spoke to the hard yards, ‘Amazing’ – which lends the lyric ‘money over bullshit’ to the upcoming tour’s name – is the postcard from the tour; to the supporters along the way, the random adventures and delirium of screaming crowds, the intense, sometimes surreal connection that takes place between crowd and performer, that makes it all completely worthwhile.

'Amazing' recognises the payoff from all the hard work and sacrifice that Spit Syndicate experience in making their music. It’s the flipside, the gratitude; the mirror an artist holds up to their supporters and collaborators as an exercise in humility.

Says Nick Lupi, one half of Spit Syndicate: “The best thing about touring is getting to perform to our fans and connect with the people who have been supporting our music. It’s the best way to gauge people's reactions to and connections with our music; there's something about meeting and chatting with people who are passionate about the music you make, that you obviously just don’t get from social media or sales figures.”

‘MONEY OVER BULLSHIT’ – WITH JOYRIDE SUPPORTING

Back to the live connection between that makes it all worthwhile and the ‘Money Over Bullshit’ tour will see Spit Syndicate head out on the road across Sep / Oct / Nov to breathe life into their lyrics.

DJing for Spit Syndicate is but one feather in Joyride’s illustrious (and very big) cap. An immensely talented singer, songwriter and producer, who has been working on his own solo material in between his plethora of show-stealing guest appearances and Twitter obsession, Joyride has recently released a free EP called Chivalrous. Weaving its way from gut-wrenching heartbreak to drug-fuelled lust, Chivalrous is a unique combination of r&b, synth pop and soul and includes lead single ‘Removalist’, featuring regular collaborator Drapht, which is currently enjoying airplay on Triple J.
