Robinson signs to Universal Music Publishing

Universal Music Publishing Australia announced that it has signed New Zealand songwriter-singer and pianist Robinson to a worldwide publishing deal.

Growing up in Nelson (and born Anna Robinson), she began writing songs in her mid-teens.

Since 2015, the 21-year-old has been writing and recording in studios through New Zealand, Australia, the UK, and the US with producers and songwriters like Fred Gibson (Ellie Goulding), Daniel Ledinsky, David Sandström (Refused), and Adam Argyle (James Bay, Ella Henderson).

Last year she marked her arrival with the classic format soft pop/folk single ‘Don’t You Forget About Me’.

Described by her as “a song about the vulnerability of losing yourself in order to truly find yourself”, it had been the last song written during a foggy week of intensive writing and recording in Los Angeles.

She followed it up with ‘Crave You’ and an Australian tour opening for Meg Mac.

In making the announcement, Arwen Hunt, vice president of A&R at UMPG Australia, said, “Anna is one of the most talented singer-songwriters I’ve ever come across.

“She has an innate talent for writing great melodies and lyrics, and every single song we’ve heard so far is flawless.

“We’re excited to have her collaborate with our local and international roster and for the world to hear the incredible songs we’ve been blasting in our office over the past few months.”

Robinson added, “Signing with Universal Music Publishing is a dream come true and I am so excited to start this journey with them.

“They’ve shown me such great support worldwide and I can’t wait to work with Arwen and her team, and get into the studio and write and write!”

Robinson will release her pop-infused ‘Nothing To Regret’ on Feb 23.

It is the result of a collaboration with Joel Little (Khalid, Lorde), Sam De Jong (30 Seconds to Mars, Noah Kahan), Allie Crystal and Larzz Principato (Dua Lipa, Halsey).

UMP Australia’s roster includes Alex The Astronaut, Bag Raiders, Cloves, Cosmo’s Midnight, Ecca Vandal, Gang of Youths, Guy Sebastian, Holy Holy, Horrorshow, Jessica Mauboy, Jonti, Joyride, JOY., Lakyn, Maribelle, Olympia, One Above, The Veronicas, Thief, Ruel, Vera Blue and Woodes.
