Driven by the rock’n’roll spirit, Melbourne band EMPRA are set to kick off a national album launch tour with a show at Revolver Upstairs on May 26, followed by a run of twenty-three dates across all major cities, finishing up with a home-coming gig at The Espy in August.
EMPRA have an unapologetically high-energy rock sound and a ‘louder is better’ attitude. Meld this with raw, honest lyrics that manage to electrocute hearts and supercharge spirits into euphoric sing-a-longs, and you have EMPRA’s unmistakable rock sound and impressive live show. They encompass the energy of the Foo Fighters, coupled with the power-packed punch of Green Day and the boisterous fun of Weezer.
“Our music is overflowing with positive vibes and uplifting energy,†says vocalist and guitarist Sanny Veloo, “we are on a relentless journey to kick your arse and lift your spirits!â€
The band’s self-titled album was inspired by a chain of events including broken hearts, broken bones, friends loved and lost, and a ‘musical chairs’ of lineup changes. It was produced and engineered by Ricki Rae (Electric Mary) and features global music sensation Wally de Backer (Gotye) whose soaring keyboards and samples are heard on the heartfelt ballad, Sabrina.
Songwriter Sanny’s lyrics are earnest and raw, motivated by personal experiences and adventures. On a mission to live the dream, nothing could stop Sanny on his quest to write, record and tour the album, not even a botched album recording on round one that subsequently drained his life savings. Being banned from performing in his home country of Singapore didn’t stop him. Nor did a metal elbow replacement, which instead saw Sanny defy medical odds when he returned to playing guitar. It is the band’s unique history, talent, passion and dedication that has resulted in such a solid, rocking debut release, sure to impress and set a buzz across the country.
EMPRA’s debut single Doesn’t Make Much Sense will be serviced to media on May 21, and has already picked up airplay on Radar Music and community stations Australia-wide, ahead of servicing.
EMPRA are four passionate, white-station-wagon-driving rock’n’rollers (three of whom are named Matt); Sanny Veloo (Lead Vocals/Guitar), Matt Agius (Bass), Matt Gault (Guitars/Backing Vocals) and Matt Cattanach (Drums).
