Australian Idol top 12 finalist and Queenslander, Casey Barnes has been devastated (as all Australians have) by the disastrous floods that have battered his home State. In a bid to help his fellow countrymen, Casey has decided to release a song, which he wrote in December of 2010, and donate 100% of all proceeds to the Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal.
Casey states, “I’ve been sitting at home over the last week or so wondering what I can do to help with what’s going on with the devastating floods here in Queensland. I've made a cash donation like so many others but wanted to do more on a bigger scale. I recorded 'Never Break You' just before Christmas with a good friend of mine Mark Duckworth and I was planning to release it later this year but given the subject matter of the song it would be selfish of me not to get it out and try and help right now. SO with the help of an amazing team of people we've been able to get this up on iTunes late last night (13/01/11) - ALL proceeds from the sale of this song will go directly to the Queensland Flood Appeal so I'm urging all Australians to get behind this.â€
The response thus far to the song has been overwhelming with the Southern Cross Ten Television and Radio Network using the track as a sound-bed to their Flood Relief commercials; and last night, the Nine Television Network played the song alongside emotive flood footage. Many radio stations across Australia have aired the song and urged fellow Australians to buy the single and help those in need.
Since the song’s release on iTunes late last night, the song has already reached #33 on the overall singles chart and #2 on the ‘Rock’ singles chart and is climbing. This just personifies that as Australian’s we are resilient, and are always willing to help those in distress. How proud are we to be Australian?
