One of the most unusual cross-genre creatives in recent years, B O K E H releases her track/video package “Options”on her own label Gloomstone Records in partnership with Ditto Music.

Merging electronic influences with pop, she is what the scene has been missing and is about to discover. The truly multinational - South African-born, New Zealand-raised, Berlin-based – and multitalented artist is a professional songwriter and musician, with a background in filmmaking, acting, and directing (including this mesmerising “Options” video). At 22, she fell into making music through playing the ukulele and singing on the streets of Berlin to get by.

“Options” wistful atmospherics, poignant synths and muffled percussion shape an unusually welcome earworm. Listening to B O K E H’s ethereal yet steel-strong vocals tie the whole track together; you know you’re hearing the next big thing. “Sometimes life needs to change. It takes a lot of courage and strength to ‘take a good look’, to move on from something or someone’ Chloë says. ‘Options is about moving forward, plunging into the unknown and finding your own sense of pleasure and freedom in what you want and who you want to be.’

The video is not merely the usual ‘illustration of the song’, B O K E H’s film is a story in itself, with its own narrative and protagonist, Dominic. ‘Dominic hides his desire to be a professional dancer and his true sexuality. He is trapped inside a square box. One day a week he hires a private dance studio, a space where he can let go, be his real self and find his own validation. We see Dominic dancing his internal battles with his identity, gender and sexuality, until he loses his inhibitions and fears, finally claiming his own body, desires and choices.’

‘Options’ is out through Ditto Music on Friday October 4th 2019.
