From the incredible success of The Waitress Song (2009), to the current radio smash My Scene, Float Away is the latest offering from Melbourne MC, Seth Sentry.

The track was immediately added to triple j rotation, and cited by influential hip-hopper 360 as his personal pick for top 10 in the 2012 triple j Hottest 100.

Float Away is an indicative of the exponential rate at which Australian hip-hop is evolving. Bold, atmospheric and almost orchestral; it is a grand and ambitious gesture from a humble and entirely creative artist. And while much of the impressiveness of Float Away is in its technical successes – its production, Seth’s voice and delivery – there is that extra inexplicable thing happening with Float Away that makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck.

And, yeah, that does come back to how well written, delivered and produced the song is, but there’s something special to Seth Sentry. That invisible magic that makes good music great music, and nothing less. Which takes nothing away from the painstaking process of actually making a record – the heavy lifting, so to speak – it just makes all that work worthwhile.

Inspired by 70’s British Comedy, the Float Away film clip received over 17,000 views in under a week. It was written by Jeremy Koren (aka Grey Ghost) with Co-Director/Cinematographer Nick Rieve. The concept initially came from various NYC references, as Koren believes that Seth is the “Woody Allen of Hip-Hop” with his cynical and intellectual outlook of the world. The album, titled This Was Tomorrow, will be released through Seth’s own record label High Score Records on September 14. It’s a ground breaking and utterly relatable hip-hop masterpiece. To bring the album to the fans, Seth has announced a 14-date tour through cities and regional centres in September and October, including appearances at Fat As Butter, Sprung Festival and Hyperfest – tickets on sale now!
